mBR Business Review — Revisions Round 1
mBR Business Review — Revisions Round 1
Section titled “mBR Business Review — Revisions Round 1”Background
Section titled “Background”Follow-up to mBR-Business-Review-and-Plan (MBR/Strategy/Tasks/mBR-Business-Review-and-Plan.md, opened 2026-07-08, still open). That task produced three artifacts on 2026-07-09 — SWOT Report, Strategic Plan v2, Pitch Deck — and Talbot gave feedback the same day that has not yet been actioned. This task closes those three feedback loops.
Do NOT re-litigate the approved strategy (3 bets, Not-Doing list, Chilton-first sequencing) — that part is settled and the Chilton proposal is already drafted (Strategy/Opportunities/Chilton-Proposal.md). This task is revision work on the three artifacts only.
1. Pitch Deck — Strategy/Pitch-Deck/mBR-Pitch-Deck.html
Section titled “1. Pitch Deck — Strategy/Pitch-Deck/mBR-Pitch-Deck.html”Talbot’s feedback (verbatim, task file line 114-119):
- Tagline: “Your life deserves more, automatically” → “Your life deserves Better, automatically”
- Reverse the initial focus: currently leads with savings rates (benefits the few with excess money) — flip to lead with debt (majority of people, much larger pain point, much bigger market)
- Wording: “not from your outcome” → “not from your Benefit”
- Gap flagged: no market research, opportunity sizing, or projections slide — add one. Ground it in real Canadian debt-market data (household debt levels, credit card/LOC/mortgage stats) — do not fabricate numbers; cite sources or mark as TODO/[placeholder] if data isn’t sourced yet.
- “For the skeptics” -> “Risks and Threats”
After edits, retest with Playwright at 1280px + 390px (repeat the same check the original build did — no overflow, no JS errors, nav works) before reporting done.
2. Strategic Plan — Strategy/Strategic Plan.md
Section titled “2. Strategic Plan — Strategy/Strategic Plan.md”Feedback is written at the bottom of that file under ## Feedback (currently unaddressed):
- Mission section: should use SSOT from
Strategy/Identity/Mission.md, not restate/paraphrase it inline — check that file exists and link/pull from it correctly (verify the file is actually there; if not, flag rather than guessing content). - Talbot agrees with the top 3 rocks, BUT: there’s undisclosed context that affects all three — talbotstevens.com (his core personal-brand site) is overdue for an update. Need to surface how this interacts with the Chilton proposal, the site-live rock, and the pitch-deck-to-investors rock. Ask Talbot what specifically is overdue on that site and how he wants it factored in — do not guess (see
talbotstevens-host-is-iismemory: site is IIS-hosted, uses web.config not .htaccess, if config work is needed). - Reference: Progress Acceleration — Talbot flagged market-validation/MVP-iteration gap as a personal weakness and high-impact improvement area. Check if this file exists; if not, this is new context to capture, not to fabricate.
3. SWOT Report — Strategy/SWOT-Report.md
Section titled “3. SWOT Report — Strategy/SWOT-Report.md”Talbot marked this “not started” (no feedback given yet as of 2026-07-09). Before revising:
- 2026JL15: Talbot reviewed and added light feedback at bottom. Include response to it.
Additional thoughts that impact Bus Plan and pitch deck
Section titled “Additional thoughts that impact Bus Plan and pitch deck”- Added 2026JL15
- Why it’s still unsolved
- Foundational barriers: knowledge, behaviour
- Many sources attempt to address the financial literacy knowledge gap, which must be addressed first.
- Behaviour focus and solutions
- The harder, overlooked, and arguably more important barrier to address is behavior. Psychologists call it the “knowing-doing gap”. This is my unique focus on helping people benefit financially. All analysis and communication will be focused on critical, behavioral realities and practical solutions, almost always overlooked. No one benefits until people act on valuable strategies.
- The focus on behavioural solutions will become one of my KSFs and USPs.
- F.A.S.T. itself addresses several of the behavioral challenges that people are busy, distracted, want simple and fast solutions, and more.
- Simple examples of how Behavioral factors dominate which financial strategies are best include
- invest versus debt paydown, assuming that 100% of freed up cash flow after the debt is down is invested
- Rent versus buy a home, assuming that renters invest 100% of the cash flow difference
- RRSPs, assuming that 100% of tax refunds are invested. And this very disciplined Behavior still does not invest all of the after-tax dollars that one starts with.
- Some behavioural strategies are in
d:\FSS\KB\MBR\Strategy\Notes\BehaviourBarrierStrategies.md, from an aistudio session.
- The overall task and purpose of this revision, using Fable 5 in Plan mode, is to upgrade the Business Plan and Pitch deck artifacts, integrating my feedback, and doing a deeper McKinzie-level strategy upgrade.
Bus Plan SSOT
Section titled “Bus Plan SSOT”- My KB-OS is evolving and proving valuable. My SMTM system has structure, tools/skills, and defined workflows projects and ongoing projects, where ROADMAP.md is the SSOT for viewing/managing any project’s (highest-level) plan.
- For each business, we should apply a ROADMAP.md probably under the strategy Department, with a link on the business dashboard, that clearly establishes the high level plan. Good idea?
- This also involves consolidating and or linking to related notes.
- Propose a structure and workflow for applying the ongoing projects approach to each business, starting with mBR.
- Integrating
- Business DASHBOARD.md (home page for each business)
- ROADMAP.md
- More detailed business plan, or is all in ROADMAP.md?
- filter+focus system, BIGGEST Rocks
- all key files in Strategy dept
- other?
- Integrating
- Perhaps best to separate this into a new task file (/task-prep) to maintain a clean separation of concerns.
Context (Auto-Prepared) — 2026-07-15
Section titled “Context (Auto-Prepared) — 2026-07-15”Resolved File Paths

KB Context
Section titled “KB Context”- Source task (
mBR-Business-Review-and-Plan.md) is the full record: two prior Claude Response rounds (SWOT+Plan+Deck build on 2026-07-09; Chilton proposal draft same day), plus Talbot’s approval of the plan and his unaddressed feedback block dated 2026-07-09 (quoted in Tasks section above verbatim — do not paraphrase away specifics like the exact tagline wording). - Biggest Rocks list (session context) still ranks Chilton proposal #1, Rate Intelligence Engine #2, business plan/pitch deck → Jeff #3 — this revision task sits under rock #3.
- Brand tokens for the deck: Treasury Emerald / Wealth Gold / Pledge Rose, Inter font, animated “myBetterRates” wordmark (s→$ bar) component already exists — reuse, don’t rebuild.
- Memory:
talbotstevens-host-is-iis— if Mission.md SSOT work or the flagged talbotstevens.com overdue-update touches web config, it’s IIS (web.config, not.htaccess).
Dependencies
Section titled “Dependencies”- Prerequisite status: none blocking — but items 2 and 3 above have an open question for Talbot (talbotstevens.com scope; SWOT feedback timing) that should be asked before or during execution, not guessed.
- External systems needed: none
- Files that must exist before execution: Mission.md and Progress Acceleration.md — both confirmed present.
Execution Notes
Section titled “Execution Notes”- Model recommendation: Sonnet for the mechanical pitch-deck copy edits and Playwright retest; escalate to Fable 5 only if the Strategic Plan Mission/rocks-context revision requires real strategic synthesis (per source task’s own instruction to reserve Fable 5 for synthesis, cheaper models for execution).
- Assignee: claude
- Key constraints: NEVER GUESS (global rule) — this task has two explicit unknowns (Mission.md/Progress-Acceleration.md existence, talbotstevens.com scope) that must be verified or asked, not assumed. Ground any new market-sizing numbers in real sourced data or mark as placeholder — do not fabricate statistics for the new pitch-deck slide.
Claude Response — 2026-07-15
Section titled “Claude Response — 2026-07-15”Plan approved in chat (Fable 5 plan mode). Decisions: TS.com = 4th workstream referencing in-flight monorepo/sites/ts/ rebuild; market slide = sizing only, no projections; Bus Plan SSOT structure → separate task.
Summary:
- Pitch deck v2 (
Strategy/Pitch-Deck/mBR-Pitch-Deck.html, now 14 slides):- Tagline → “Your life deserves Better, automatically” (Better in Wealth Gold); “not from your outcome” → “not from your Benefit”; “For the Skeptics” → “Risks and Threats” (kicker, title tag, meta description)
- Debt-first reframe: slide 1 subtitle now “debts and savings”; Problem slide rebuilt to lead with debt ($3.25T household debt · 179.6% debt-to-income, G7-highest · ~60% of mortgages renewing 2025–26), savings loyalty-penalty demoted to 4th card
- New Market slide (“A $3.25-trillion problem, renewing on a schedule”) — all numbers sourced: StatCan national balance sheet Q1 2026, CMHC RMIR (1.5M renewed higher in 2025), Equifax ($4,300+ record card balance). Footer explicitly notes no revenue projections by design
- Behavioural elevation: Why-Unsolved slide now frames knowledge-vs-behaviour barriers + your three examples (invest-vs-paydown, rent-vs-buy, RRSP refunds — all assume 100% reinvestment); Moat card 4 → “Verified data + behavioural science” citing the 19-strategy playbook
- Slide insertion required flipping dark/light alternation on slides 10–14 (with per-slide color-class fixes: emerald↔green-lite, kicker styles)
- Verified with Playwright at 1280px + 390px: 14/14 slides, 0 JS errors, 0 overflow, keyboard/Home/End nav works; screenshots of slides 1/9/13/14 reviewed
- Strategic Plan v2.1 (
Strategy/Strategic Plan.md): Mission section now quotes the Mission SSOT verbatim; new Behavioural-solutions principle (KSF/USP) in Core Strategy with Rock-2 copy directives (loss-aversion framing, smart defaults, temporal reframing); Bet 1 reframed debt-first in positioning (savings stays first shippable wedge — engine built, no licensing friction — but all messaging leads debt); sourced market-sizing block added to Situation (kept in sync with deck); talbotstevens.com named-dependency block under 90-Day Plan (rebuild in flight atmonorepo/sites/ts/, restyle+cutover targeted inside Rock-2 August window, ideally before Chilton email); Feedback section resolved - SWOT revised (
Strategy/SWOT-Report.md) — your “silent crack” challenge was investigated, and you were right:- Scraper healthy: 17/17 sources green daily, 69 new rows today
- The perpetual “Export/Deploy: pending” is a reporting bug:
runner.py:721writes “pending” expectingdaily-run.shto update it — the script has no writeback - BUT a real deploy failure started 2026-07-13 (coincidentally, 4 days after the SWOT):
Wrangler requires at least Node.js v22.0.0. You are using v20.19.6in the cron environment — deploys were green through Jul 12; public widget/rates now 3 days stale. Export itself succeeds (76 products daily) - Finding #4 + W4 rewritten with this two-part diagnosis; W2 amended with your KB-OS-investment counterpoint (accepted, with the displaces-a-rock test going forward); Feedback section resolved
- Spin-off task created:
Strategy/Tasks/mBR-Business-Plan-SSOT-Structure.md(draft) — ROADMAP/DASHBOARD/business-plan integration. Pre-verified findings baked in:Strategy/ROADMAP.mdexists but is stale (8 scrapers/16 products; old paths; a third divergent Mission wording) andMBR/DASHBOARD.mdhas no ROADMAP/Plan links. Ready for /task-prep -
_active.mdupdated (this task + spin-off listed under MBR dept)
Next Steps for Talbot:
- Fix-today op (recommended before anything else): authorize the deploy fix — bump Node ≥22 in the cron environment (or pin wrangler) + add the ops-log writeback to
daily-run.sh. Public rate data is stale since Jul 13. I can do both in a short session on your go- go
- Review the revised pitch deck (arrow keys / swipe) — especially the new slide 9 (Market) and the debt-first Problem slide
- reviewed. better.
- Review Strategic Plan v2.1 — the Behavioural-solutions principle wording and the TS.com sequencing call (restyle+cutover before the Chilton email goes out)
- better
- Review revised SWOT W4/W2 — confirm the two-part diagnosis reads fair
- good
- Run
/task-prep mBR-Business-Plan-SSOT-Structurewhen ready to charter the ROADMAP/DASHBOARD work 1.
Talbot Response
Section titled “Talbot Response”- Do not implement. With the plan and pitch deck upgraded, quickly confirm that the node deploy fix and the new task can be implemented with Sonnet, instead of Fable, per the directive to use the most appropriate AI models - and only SOTA where valuable.
Claude Response — 2026-07-15 (2)
Section titled “Claude Response — 2026-07-15 (2)”Summary:
- Nothing implemented, per instruction. Model-routing check only.
- Node deploy fix → Sonnet: yes, confidently. Root cause is fully diagnosed and mechanical:
daily-run.sh:74sets a PATH without nvm, so cron resolves/usr/bin/nodev20.19.6 while nvm has v24.12.0 (and v22.19.0) installed. Fix = prepend the nvm node bin to that PATH line + add the ops-log Export/Deploy writeback (a few lines), then verify with one manual run. Zero design decisions left; this is arguably even Haiku-grade, but Sonnet is the safe floor. Note:daily-run.shis a cron-executed script — under the ai-config self-modification rule the session should still get your live-chat go before editing it. -
mBR-Business-Plan-SSOT-Structuretask → Sonnet: yes. The task file already carries the design framing and constraints (SSOT bias against a third document; verified stale-ROADMAP findings; integration checklist). Remaining work is structure proposal within those rails + mechanical refresh/link-wiring — Sonnet territory. Escalate to Fable only if the structure proposal surfaces a genuine architecture disagreement worth SOTA reasoning (not expected). - Both tasks are also small enough that Fable would mostly burn premium tokens on file I/O — routing them to Sonnet is the correct application of the models directive.
Next Steps for Talbot:
- Deploy fix: run in a fresh Sonnet session —
/task-from-chatisn’t needed; a one-line prompt pointing at SWOT W4’s diagnosis suffices (fix is pre-scoped there). Give the live-chat approval for editingdaily-run.shin that session 1. - SSOT task:
/task-prep mBR-Business-Plan-SSOT-Structurethen/task-startin a Sonnet session 1.

Talbot Response
Section titled “Talbot Response”Claude Response — 2026-07-15 (3)
Section titled “Claude Response — 2026-07-15 (3)”Live-chat go given. Fixed /home/ta/projects/mbr/scripts/daily-run.sh directly (Talbot noted the other task — SSOT structure — was started in a separate session).
Summary:
- PATH fix (line 74): prepended
$HOME/.nvm/versions/node/v24.12.0/bin(the nvm default alias) ahead of pnpm/local-bin/system PATH. Root cause confirmed: cron’s minimal PATH resolved/usr/bin/nodev20.19.6; wrangler needs v22+. - Ops-log writeback: added
update_ops_status()(sed-patches the**Export:**/**Deploy:**lines in today’sLogs/Ops/YYYY-MM-DD_Rate-Scanner-Ops.md) and wired calls at every branch — export success/fail, suppressed, widget-build fail, deploy success/fail. Report no longer stuck reading “pending” forever (root cause:runner.py:721writes the placeholder and a stale comment claiming this script updates it — it never did, until now). - Verified end-to-end with a real (non-dry-run) manual invocation,
PATHforced to a minimal cron-like env (env -i ... PATH="/usr/bin:/bin") to prove the fix — not just re-use my interactive shell’s PATH:- Dry-run first: SUCCESS
- Full run: all 7 steps completed, Step 4 (Cloudflare Pages deploy) succeeded — first success since 2026-07-13
- Ops report (
2026-07-15_Rate-Scanner-Ops.md) now shows**Export:** success/**Deploy:** successinstead of “pending” - Confirmed live:
https://benefit-snapshots.pages.devreturns 200 with current build
Next Steps for Talbot:
- Nothing blocking — fix is live and will run correctly at tomorrow’s 06:00 ET cron. Optionally spot-check the ops dashboard (
https://mbr-ops-dashboard.pages.dev) tomorrow to confirm the automated cron run (not just this manual verification) also lands green 1.
Talbot Response
Section titled “Talbot Response”- Let’s reconcile this task with the initial task, at
D:\FSS\KB\MBR\Strategy\Tasks\mBR-Business-Review-and-Plan.md, so I have ONE SSOT to continue this task (for more detailed review by me) later.- Should we simply capture any unaddressed tasks from the original, and append it to a single “Next steps for Talbot” section in this file? Thus I would mark the original as complete?
Claude Response — 2026-07-15 (4)
Section titled “Claude Response — 2026-07-15 (4)”Reconciled. Read mBR-Business-Review-and-Plan.md end to end — every “Next Steps for Talbot” item across its two Claude Response rounds. Result below.
Summary:
- Round 1 items (Strategic Plan review, SWOT review, pitch deck review, Chilton green-light, deploy-fix authorization) — all closed, either by your reviews earlier in this file or the deploy fix just shipped. Nothing carries forward.
- Round 2 items (Chilton proposal — draft review, placeholders, cancer50pledge decision, send-by-July-31) — never addressed in either file. Carried forward below as the one open thread.
- Marked
mBR-Business-Review-and-Plan.mdcomplete, pointing here as the SSOT (see that file’s closing response).
Next Steps for Talbot (consolidated — this is now the single list):
- Chilton proposal (
Strategy/Opportunities/Chilton-Proposal.md) — review the draft: Option A (Founding Signatory, zero commitment) vs Option B (signatory makes own pledge) in section 1; whether Dave already knows about the cancer (changes paragraph 2) 1. - Fill proposal placeholders: greeting, last-contact line, optional first-book paragraph, phone, send channel 1.
- Decide: polish
cancer50pledge.pages.devbefore sending, or send URL-free as drafted 1. - Send by July 31 (Rock 1 deadline); calendar the single 2-week follow-up nudge 1.
- talbotstevens.com — still open from item 2 of this task’s original scope: what specifically is overdue on the site, and how should it factor into the Chilton-send timing / Strategic Plan v2.1’s TS.com dependency block? Not guessed, not answered yet 1.
- SSOT task (
mBR-Business-Plan-SSOT-Structure) — you said you started this in a separate session; no action needed here, just flagging it’s tracked separately, not lost 1.
